A group of Baptist believers met at Centerton City Hall on March 14, 2001, with the desire to start a mission in Centerton, AR and asked Bro. Tim Ward to be the missionary. Bro. Tim Ward accepted. The mission began meeting in Centerton City Hall. If City Hall was already reserved, the mission met in the Merry Matrons building in Centerton or the Health Dept. Building in Bentonville. Because City Hall was one large room, the kitchen served as the nursery. The hallway was used as Children’s Chapel. You had to walk through Children’s Chapel if you wanted to get to the restrooms. In June of 2001, Center Missionary Baptist Church in Rowell, AR, with Bro. Doney Blackerby as Pastor, voted to be the sponsoring church for Centerton Missionary Baptist Mission.
Center MBC donated a church van to the mission in July of 2001 and began the search for property for a church building. After meeting with a realtor who showed land and buildings “off the beaten path”, Bro. Benny Stone and Bro. Doney Blackerby (from Center MBC) and Bro. Tim Ward went off on their own search for land. After spotting some vacant property on Highway 102 in Centerton and making inquiries of who owned the land, they met Bro. Billy Bonds who lived across the highway from the property. After meeting with Bro. Bonds, he indicated he would consider selling the 9 acres of property for a church building. The youth from Center MBC came to Centerton in August and helped with VBS which was set up inside City Hall along with tents outside. In December, 2001, Centerton Missionary Baptist Mission closed on 9 acres of land on Highway 102 in Centerton for $100,000 --- Bro. Billy Bonds contributed $20,000 towards the purchase price.
In 2001, the mission used another church’s baptistery for baptism services. Before the building was completed, the mission held many baptism services at Beaver Lake. After the building was completed, Bro. Tim has been able to baptize individuals in the mission’s baptistery as well as the swimming pool of a church member’s home.
The mission held a tent revival on our new land (complete with a port-a-potty and a separate tent for a nursery) in June of 2002. The ground breaking service for the church building was held in September, 2002. In October of 2002, the Arkansas State Mission builders arrived and worked around the clock to have the building in the dry in 5 days. Many men from the mission helped with this effort while the ladies provided the food. The mission continued to meet in City Hall while continuing to work on the church building. The 2002 Christmas service was held with space heaters in the unfinished auditorium.
In July, 2003, the mission started meeting in the fellowship hall of the church building and continued work on the building. November of 2003 was a big month for the mission. The mission started having Sunday School. The 1st church service was held in the finished auditorium. The mission hosted the Mission Rally. In December of 2003 the mission finally had running water in the building. (Members had been bringing 5 gallon containers of water to be able to use the restrooms.)
In March, 2004, Centerton Missionary Baptist Mission held the dedication service for the church building.
The mission launched the AWANA ministry for children in August, 2005.
During 2006, there were several additions to the mission body.
In the fall of 2007, the debt on the church building was paid.
An organization service was held on March 15, 2008, and Centerton Missionary Baptist Mission organized as Centerton Missionary Baptist Church after being a mission sponsored by Center Missionary Baptist Church in Rowell, AR for 7 years.
